How To Change A Car Tyre?

Mar 23, 2023

If you drive a car long enough, chances are you’ll eventually have to deal with a flat tyre. While this can be a frustrating and inconvenient situation, knowing how to change a car tyre can save you time and money by avoiding a costly tow or mechanic bill. In this blog, we’ll go over the step-by-step process of changing a car tyre.

Preparing for the Tyre Change

The first step in changing a car tyre is to prepare your vehicle and surroundings. Find a safe place to stop, such as a flat and level section of the road with plenty of space to work. Once you’ve stopped the car, make sure to engage the handbrake and turn off the engine. Remove all passengers from the car and make sure they’re standing a safe distance away from the vehicle.

Loosening the Wheel Nuts

Once you’ve secured the car and its surroundings, it’s time to start loosening the wheel nuts. First, remove the hub cap covering the wheel nuts, then use a wrench to loosen each wheel nut by turning it counter clockwise.

Removing the Tyre

Now it's time to lift the car and remove the flat tyre. Locate the jacking point under your vehicle (refer to your car manual if necessary) and use it to raise the car until the flat tyre is off the ground. Once the car is securely lifted, finish unscrewing each wheel nut and remove the flat tyre. Place the spare tyre into position and screw the wheel nuts by hand.

Mounting the Spare Tyre

With the spare tyre in place, use the wrench to tighten each wheel nut as much as possible; we recommend tightening them in a diagonal pattern (tightening one nut, then the one opposite it, and so on). Once the nuts are tightened as much as possible by hand, lower the car back to the ground using the jack.

Getting Back on the Road

After lowering the car, use the wrench to fully tighten each wheel nut, again following a diagonal pattern. Once the nuts are tightened, replace the hubcap (if applicable) and stow all equipment in your vehicle. Check the tyre pressure of the spare tyre and ensure it’s safe to drive on. You should get your punctured tyre repaired or replaced as soon as possible.

In conclusion, changing a car tyre is a relatively simple process that can save you time and money in the event of a flat tyre. By following these steps, you can change a tyre safely and quickly, and get back on the road with minimal disruption to your day. Remember to always practice caution and safety when changing a tyre, and if you’re unsure about any step in the process, consult a professional for further assistance.
